I bought this bike in march of 2022 and had it delivered from Phoenix Arizona from a gentleman that worked at a Triumph dealership as a mechanic . he found it as a barn find .. here is his statement when he listed the bike because he done the beginning of the work ."" This is a running motorcycle with lots of recent refreshing. The motor
and frame numbers match and the bike had a clean New Mexico title in the
seller's name. This bike found me in non running condition, it had been sitting
for about 20 years. I did all the usual things to bring a T140 back and put 250
test miles since completing the refresh. I have done the following to bring it
back into good working order. Extensive motor and chassis degrease and detail,
got in all the hard spots. New Dunlop k81 tires and tubes. Rebuilt front forks.
Cleaned, lubed, and adjusted steering head bearings. Rebuilt front and rear
brake system with new masters, caliper rebuilds, new rotors, new lines and
pads. New fiber clutch plates. New drive chain. Replaced various rubber bits.
Replaced head gaskets and all top end gaskets. Now it is oil tight and running
well. Valves were sealing nicely but head gasket was not. Adjusted valves.
Installed solid state regulator/rectifier. Replaced crankshaft and camshaft oil
seals inside the timing cover. Set and strobed the Lucas Rita electronic
ignition. Replaced oil pressure sensor. Stripped and thoroughly cleaned and
rebuilt Amal MKII carburetors, updated carburetors to European jetting and
needles. Spent a lot of time cleaning the inside of the fuel tank, installed
new petcocks and fuel lines. Removed and cleaned the sump plate in the frame
and motor, changed motor oil. Changed gear oil. Here are some items I would
like to disclose.... The fuel tank has great original paint patina, but it has
some issues. There are metric studs installed for the front mounts, and there
is no tank strap. Two small pin holes have been welded up and it is as clean as
it can be inside. Holds fuel and functions. The RH handlebar switch is bypassed
inside the headlight, using original Lucas bullet connectors and sleeves. It is
not hacked up, but the kill switch was causing intermittent issues. So the key
all the way on provides power to lights and ignition. The seat is off an earlier
T140v model. It has the "warning positive ground" decal, but the bike
is wired up negative ground the way they came in 79. RH header pipe has a ding.
It shows some corrosion and age, not a show bike. "" now with that said when the bike arrived at my house it was taken over to Midway cycles and stripped down repainted bought a new fuel tank petcocks and strap from England had the fuel tank liquid lined so the tank will never rust in side replace all rubber peaces new throttle cables and clutch cable and spedo cable replaced tach adapter drive had the carbs re jetted for local sea level this area is stock .. it was jetted for high altitude .. custom paint job and replaced cracked side cover . ordered side mirrors from England and had then installed .. removed the rear luggage rack took it to Florence and had it re-chromed , replaced front and rear sprockets and drive chain , new clutches installed , had a mild cam installed so it has that nice hollow loping sound , as stated above all seals and gaskets have been replaced there are no oil or gas leaks and new left and right side header pipes . between buying this bike and and having it in the bike shop from march till middle Oct. 9K dollars has been spent on this bike . sadly the only reason anyone is getting a chance to buy this bike is i have had 6 knee surgery's and on the first trip out i took my wife to Starbucks for a coffee and when kick starting the bike to return home i tore up my right knee again and will now have to have a knee replacement my riding days have come to an end and i only got to put 10 miles on the bike and had to have it towed home that day were it has been sitting . now it's time for this bike to find a new loving home ..
