The folks at Speed Dealer Customs in Joplin Missouri built this one.
I bought it directly from them.
Always had a soft spot for big singles; knew a bit about the durability of these Yamahas (had a couple of stock ones new), and was captured by the custom work on this one.
The continued popularity of this model might make this the most fun you can have on two wheels at this price.
The Speed Dealer craftsmen hand hammered the fenders, fairing, tank and seat pan from flat sheets.
Beautiful stuff.
If you look carefully there are many, many custome fabricated pieces on this bike.
Beyond the one off bodywork are the very best custom
handlebar controls, fuel cap, rear sets, mirrors, compression release and much more.
But the part that got me was the cylinder.
I’m trying to get some photos that I hope Speed Dealer might still have.
They fabricated a set of larger cooling fins, put
the cylinder on the bench upside down and welded and finished each fin starting from the top and working up to the bottom.
There is no visual evidence of this work when looking at the bike.
The point was to duplicate the cylinder look of famous old single like BSA’s Gold Star.
