I am selling this increasingly hard to find FLH Shovelhead. This bike is complete, running, and drivable as it sits. Though it has a few aftermarket add-on, the bulk of this ultra low mileage bike is all OEM Harley and of the period - making it the perfect specimen for full restoration! Only 4900 miles on the working speedometer/odometer. This bike shows no signs of prior crash damage or major injury. It is a legendary and collectible timepiece of American motorcycling historyThis is a one owner bike, purchased new June of '76 from "Onion" at Riders Harley Davidson right here in Birmingham, Alabama. It was ridden about 4700 miles during its first few years of ownership then it was stored for the next 40 years in the owner's basement from 1981 to 2021. In Feb 2022 it was de-mothballed, serviced and made ready to ride again. Work was done in phases as listed below. Phase 1 - The S&S Super E carb was rebuilt, fuel petcock replaced with new reproduction version and the varnished "green" pre-ethanol era gas was flushed and rinsed from the incredibly and amazing RUST FREE fuel tank. New spark plugs, points, and coil were installed....Engine oil, oil filter, and transmission fluid were changed.Phase 2 - the Starter and Starter Bendix mechanism were replaced with new parts - and while inside the primary a new clutch and ring gear was installed along with fresh primary fluid and gasket.Bike then fired instantly. Ran and idled smoothly, and rev'd with crisp and predictable throttle action. No burning oil, engine smoke, abnormal noises and no engine oil leaks while running. This is a good running engine and it needs nothing.Phase 3 The rectifier and stator were replaced, the chain and sprockets were replaced, front rear brake hydraulics rebuilt and new pads installed. Lastly fresh set of Dunlop with Wide White Wall 404's were mounted and balanced along with new tubes. CosmeticsThough this machine has been indoor stored its entire life, it has that original and unmistakeable "survivor bike" patina. A lil TLC and some elbow grease will make this piece shine and glee. Chrome and brightwork is all there - but needs polishing and a few pieces might need re-plating. Paint is not so great. It was probably suitable back in the day when it was painted circa 1980 but a fresh paint job would make all the difference in this things transformation to being elite. Sheet metal, and fiberglass bags are overall in good excepting that front fender has one dent (but easily repairable). Windshield appears to be original but it is hazy. Fuel tank bezel/dash panel is original as is the original AMF version speedometer/odometer with resettable trip meter.Side bags and mounting hardware/brackets are original to the bike and are complete and straight. Handlebars, controls and switch assemblies all appear to original as well as the headlight nisell and all forward lighting and brackets. Floorboards and foot controls are original as is the engine crash bar.Engine/TransmissionMotor is strong and noise free. No smoke and no leaks while running. Transmission and clutch shift and engage/disengage smoothly whether up or down shifting. No fuel leaks. Charging system is functional and puts out 14v at idle. There is slight fluid drip when the bike sits idle for awhile -possibly primary, transmission, or engine oil. But not sure from where it originates. Because bike has been sitting since early 2022 it will likely need a carb clean and a battery.ChassisRims, hubs, spokes are straight/true and original and the WWW Dunlops still have the mold release whiskers. Brakes stop well and have good consistent lever feel.bike doesn't wobble, or vibrate from chassis irregularities. Forks and shocks do not leak and suspension action is good. Steering neck bearings are good and neck has no freeplay, notchiness, or resistance when turning or stopping. Throttle self closes. Brakes do not drag - wheels and wheel bearings roll true and free. No stripped or broken hardware on this bike. The upholstery on the non original, sleek and streamlined two-up seat is excellent with no marks, tears, chaffing etc. We are representing a local Birmingham Alabama collector/enthusiast of 70 plus years liquidate his stunning collection of motorcycles and muscle cars, Italian and German sports cars, Restomods, etc. All vehicles are indoor climate controlled stored, immaculately maintained, with low mileage.
