Description

You are bidding on one 1975 BMW R90/6 garage find, for restoration or custom project. This bike is in rough but very rebuildable condition. Please take a close look at the pictures. The good things are the gas tank was drained before storage and the inside is immaculate. The wheels and shock towers all polish up pretty well; the wheels need to be rebuilt with new spokes and wheel bearings, but the aluminum rims look to be in nice condition and the aluminum came up really nicely with a little polish. The engine has 11,000 miles, which I believe may be accurate. The carbs look very nice, and the mufflers aren’t too bad, but the headers are a little rusty and have some dents up as well. The frame has some rust, but will clean up nicely. The seat is history, the pan is a disaster; the grab bar, locking post, and hinges may still be serviceable. The front fender is from a newer R100 model. The gas tank is in very nice condition; it has a few dents on a repainted tank, but was properly drained, and looks immaculate on the inside. The right side valve cover is missing, and the valve train on the right side has some light dirty buildup on it. I  found it has a bent exhaust pushrod; it looks like the previous owner may have been trying remove or adjust the valves, and got the pushrod hung up. The right side head has some bent fins on the top of the head. I think the bad pushrod came from an inexperienced hand trying to address the bent fins. Nevertheless, all very fixable. I’m my opinion, I would pull the cylinders for a complete top end job. everything needs to be taken down and gone through completely, making sure that the camshaft and lifters all look good. Buy a new set of pushrods as well, and maybe new lifters. I would also expect to be looking for a nice right side head; I do know of some good BMW machine shops can straighten the fins, and do fantastic head work; just fyi. Ultimately, with the bike having only 11,000 miles, I think whoever wins this bike should have a nice solid base to start with.  Perfect for a cafe', scrambler, or bobber project. Being sold as-is with no warranties expressed or implied, at no reserve to the highest bidder. Please take note that this is a salvage title; my best guess is that it has had a replacement frame shipped from Germany, since the VIN plate is not on the frame. The VIN on the title does not match the engine, which is 4941044. All costs and arrangements for shipping are the responsibility of the winning bidder. I will assist with the pickup of the bike with the shipper of your choice. You are also welcome to come and pick the bike up yourself. Please feel free to ask any questions. I’ve been restoring airheads for some time now, and may have other spare parts to help you along. I just want to say in summary that this bike has a lot of very nice aspects to it that will make this a pretty easy build. The R90 is one fantastic bike; very reliable and fun to ride. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!
