This exciting 1973 Honda Z50A Custom is a one-of-a-kind build that draws a ton of attention. Launched in 1961, the Z-series or Monkey Bike was a line of minibikes made by Honda which have a model number starting with the letter Z. The bike came to be known as a monkey bike because those riding them “looked like monkeys”. They were powered by a new single overhead camshaft 49cc engine and 3-speed semi-automatic transmission. The 1973 model release date was November 1st, 1972 starting with frame #Z50A-3000001. This example is frame #Z50A-3013097. It was built by Old Bikes Run who specializes in Honda CT70 and Z50 restorations. The build was done for Vincent Racco of Vrocks Vintage Parts. The vision of the build was to create a one-of-a-kind and show quality Z50. The mission was accomplished with this amazing machine that's powered by a Honda CT70 72cc four-stroke engine. . It was completed in 2023 with only break-in time.
The frame was stripped and powder coated black for durability. A more powerful Honda CT70 72cc four-stroke engine was sourced, completely rebuilt and added. The 72cc engine has 1.5 more horsepower than the original 49cc engine. It was outfitted with a custom Vincent Racco stator cover, TB Parts oil temperature gauge and Auto State kick starter. It's equipped with a Honda CT70 stock carburetor that was re-jetted and a K&N style open element air filter. The engine runs and sounds excellent through the dual outlet high performance exhaust with chrome shield. The air cooled engine is coupled to a 3-speed semi-automatic transmission with aluminum fold back shifter arm.
It was setup with chrome motocross style handlebars with kill switch, black grips, twist style throttle and black front brake lever. The handlebars have a P5 aluminum black triple clamp. The front forks were refinished in white. The aluminum rear swingarm was extended. It's equipped with Sunstar sprockets and Max Top 420 chain. It rolls on 8” aluminum wheels with new Michelin S83 3.50-8 street tread tires. It has new front and rear braking components.
It was dressed with a custom front white fairing off of a child's battery operated motorbike. The front headlight is fully functional while the engine is running. It also was dressed with chrome front fender, shortened chrome rear fender, white side covers and a metal gas tank refinished in white with new Honda decals. The new black seat cover faces the rear taillight with custom lens guard. The tail light is also fully functional while the engine is running.
This is the perfect piece for any collection. It's the only one known to exist like it. From the MS
