This 1971 Oldsmobile 442 convertible Resto-Mod was built by
Thornton Muscle Cars of Quakertown, PA. This '71 carries a Holley
Sniper fuel-injected Oldsmobile 455ci V8 engine paired with a W-30
aluminum intake manifold and Edelbrock aluminum heads. Power is
transferred through a TREMEC TKO 5-speed manual transmission. The
engine features a billet aluminum serpentine belt kit from CVF, an
aluminum FlowKooler water pump and a Cold Case aluminum radiator
with dual electric fans. The exhaust exits through Thornton headers
into a handmade 2.5-inch stainless-steel exhaust system with an
X-pipe and Black Widow mufflers. It is equipped with Corvette C4
front-end suspension that includes aluminum control arms, aluminum
spindles and Flaming River Mustang II power rack & pinion steering.
The rear end utilizes a Currie 9-inch triangulated locker rear with
a 3.70 gear ratio. Suspension rides on an air-ride system with
components from both RideTech and Air Lift helping with sway,
bounce and performance. The power brakes take advantage of the
hydrolytic system; the hydro-boost supplies the stopping power to a
Baer setup, from the master cylinder to the 13-inch drilled and
slotted rotors with 6-piston calipers. The car is finished in black
paint with red W-30 stripes and rolls on custom 20x12 and 19x8
Schott wheels that have the Oldsmobile Rocket engraved in the
center caps and are wrapped in custom Goodyear tires. Both bumpers
have bolts smoothed in, and there are flush-mounted door handles
from Kindig-It Designs. The W-30 features include red front fender
wells, a Thornton OAI hood with a Thornton air cleaner to complete
the kit, and sport mirrors. The red Italian leather interior boasts
features that include seat bolsters in the front buckets plus real
walnut wood inserts, touchscreen Bluetooth stereo, Classic
Instrument gauges, Sparc Industries steering wheel, custom aluminum
trim and power windows, all keeping cool with a Vintage Air system.
The convertible top was modernized with Stayfast black cloth. **
