This 1971 Mercury Cougar XR7 convertible is one of five powered by
a matching-numbers 429/370hp Cobra Jet V8 engine mated to a 4-speed
manual transmission produced for the model year. It is equipped
with power steering, power front disc brakes and a black power top,
as well as Magnum wheels and leather seats. It has an unbroken
chain of ownership. This Cougar was featured in Donald Farr's
"Classic Ford and Mercury Muscle Car" book. It was awarded MCACN
2022 Gold Best Mercury and Best Day 2 Cougar. It is one of one 1971
Cougar XR7 convertibles equipped with the 429 Cobra Jet V8 engine,
4-speed manual transmission and painted Dark Green Metallic with
Ginger leather bucket seats. Features also include an AM/FM radio
and sports console with clock, as well as styled steel wheels. Also
added were 31-spline rear axles with a 3.25 ratio Traction-Lok rear
end, Drag Pack staggered rear shocks and competition suspension,
and a Super Cobra Jet intake manifold with the SCJ Holley
specific-style carburetor.
