1970 DODGE CHALLENGER CONVERTIBLE, MULTY 100 THOUSAND DOLLAR RESTORATION/RESTO MOD. INCREDIBLE CAR!
This immaculate 1970 Challenger went through an every bolt and nut restoration lasting over 17 years. The owner has over $200.000 in the car but he is down sizing and he has accepted that he will take a big hit..
It is resto modded and it is 100% finished and ready to use and have fun with, and why not bring home a trophy or two at every show it is taken to!
You can not buy a better 1970 Challenger Convertible for the same money!
The body work, paint job (exterior, inside and underneath) took over 1100 hours at a professional top notch restoration shop and the job is stunning. Even at the shop rate of only $50 (the rate in the early 2000's when the job was started) the bill from them was over $79.000.
The chassis features a tubular front end, rack and pinion steering, frame connectors between the front and rear sub frames. 4 link rear suspension. Front disc brakes.
A race car driver and race engine builder was chosen to build the engine starting with a brand new R3 Mopar performance race 340 block that was bored out. A new stroker crank was added, new Mopar performance W9 race cylinder heads and every piece used for the engine is brand new. It is now a 426 small block pumping out around 600 HP.
Yes, you can build a 426 starting with a 340 block (340 was a short stroke motor. 4.00 stroker cranks are available. That with an 0.080 overbore you get 4.00 stroke with 4.120 bore = 426.61 cubic inches). The R3 race engine block has not been available for several years. It is considered one of the best small block Mopar race engines around.
The engine build was of course very, very expensive but it was perfect for the car! A used engine built by the same builder and matching this engine was for sale a while ago for $30.000!
Behind the engine is a 5 speed manual transmission. Custom built drive shaft and a limited slip Dana 60 rear end.
Custom made headers and a custom made dual exhaust were ceramic coated and installed.
The car has an original Shaker hood by the way.
The new interior, door panels and convertible top are perfect.
17" Mopar aluminum wheels and new tires were added.
There's of course hundreds if not thousands of other details, new light lenses, steering wheel, gauges for the dash, dash pad, chrome, glass, radiator, cooling fans, fuel tank with sending unit and I could go on and on.
The car is completely done and it has been driven enough that the bugs have been worked out.
The owner is retiring and is scaling down his Mopar collection so the Challenger is now up for sale for less than 50% of his investment, no trades.
The Challenger is in Phoenix, Arizona and it is sold with a clear Arizona title.
If sold on export we can handle transport to port in Los Angeles or Huston, Texas if that is better.
