The golden era of the muscle car was still going strong and 1970 will forever represent the most powerful, factory built, carbureted engines ever to reign on the streets of America. Chevrolets Chevelle has always been a perfect example from that era with its aggressive yet sleek design. Starting in 1964 and continuing through 1978, the Chevelle quickly became one of Chevrolets most successful nameplates and remains a highly sought-after and collectible muscle car with many engine options available along with its well-known Super Sport trim package. The highest powered Chevelle model, and the only production GM car to have a higher horsepower rating than the Corvette, was the limited production 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS6 model. This specialty Chevelle was only produced for one year with large rectangular port heads, high rise aluminum intake, Holley carburetor, solid-lifter camshaft, and higher compression at 11.25:1. Buying one of these impressive Chevelles meant the customer also had to purchase the mandatory SS454 package which included engine accents & SS fender emblems, black dash with round dial gauges with SS steering wheel, dual exhaust with twin rectangular tips, blacked out grille, wheel opening moldings, power front disc brakes, special performance suspension and F70 x 14 tires on 5-spoke 7" wide sport wheels. The rear bumper featured a black insert with SS emblem, and a "power bulge" domed hood up front. The St. Louis Car Museum is very proud to offer this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 Hardtop finished in beautiful Fathom Blue with White Stripes and a Black vinyl SS interior (originally Medium Blue). Powered by its namesake LS6 numbers matching "CRR" stamped 454ci V8 engine with a high flow Holley four-barrel carburetor bolted to an aluminum GM intake manifold that produces a beastly 450 horsepower and 500 lbs.-ft of torque! All that power is mated to an Automatic 3-speed Turbo-Hydramatic 400 transmission and a Posi-traction 12-bolt rear end. This Chevelle also features power steering, functional cowl induction hood, F41 Performance Suspension with stiffer springs along with front & rear sway bars, driver side mirror, bench seating, F70x14 white letter Firestone tires, AM/FM radio, with standard manual windows & door locks.
