1969 Honda CL
1969 Honda CL
Nov 25, 2024
Description

1969 Honda cl450 I purchased this Honda cl450 in 2017 from a friend as astock motorcycle.  I rode the bike a fairbit completing two Moto Melee rallies in 2018 and 2019.  For a vintage bike the 450 Honda is one of myfavorites.  The only shortcoming of theCL450 for the riding I was doing is the small gas tank so in 2018 I put my nameon Evan Wilcox’s list for a custom aluminum tank that would be bigger thanstock.  Things changed in 2019 when I wasriding this bike on the SOTT and the cam chain broke – the motor would have tobe rebuilt and now it was time for me to build my ‘ultimate scrambler’.  The bike was off to Craig Marleau ofKickstart Garage in Redding ca for the transformation.  Craig used this as his display bike for the2023 One Motorcycle show in Portland Oregon. The work and modifications that were done to the bike. n EEngine – after the cam chain broke the enginereceived a full rebuild.  The build isstock however the cams and followers were given a mild grind by megacycle.  The engine has new Mikuni carbs and a shockwave electronic ignition.  The stockexhaust was powder coated black and the heat shields are done in titaniumCerakote to match the hubs and other details on the bike.  The engine was painted black whenrebuilt.  The engine is both electric andkick start and the electric starter was rebuilt during the restoration. n FFrame / chassis – the passenger peg mounts wereremoved from the frame and a loop was added at the rear between the shocks tosupport the rear fender.  The frame wasalso powdercoated.  The rear shocks areNJB and 1.5 inches longer than stock. The custom box section swing arm is longer than stock to accommodate thelarger rear tire.  The forks are from aCB750 and are longer than stock to match the rear.  Due to the increased height of the bike thestock center stand was not tall enough and the bike only has a lengthened sidestand.  The seat was shortened but stillretains the stock mechanism at the front and the hinge at the rear.  The fenders are original Honda from a sl350. n BBodywork – the custom aluminum tank (4 gallon)and side covers were handmade by Evan Wilcox (search him online if you are not familiar with his work). The tank wears the Honda badges that were on the original tank from thisbike.  The side covers have custom decals“Sl450”  -- the joke as the bike wasbeing built is that this was the bike Honda should have made as there is nosuch bike as a Sl450. n  – Wheels - the stock hubs were coated with atitanium Cerakote.  The wheels wererebuilt using black Excel rims and Stainless spokes from Buchanan’s.  The tires are Duro trials type (3.25/19 F and4.0/18 R) nC /Controls / electronics – this bike has Builtwellbars and Magura Levers.  It has an LEDheadlight and taillight.  The electricalsystem is all new and is based on a Cycletronic X21.  This bike does not have blinkers.  The tach and speedo are small aftermarketones and mileage is from before the bike was restored. Details to mention – After sitting for a few weeks there wasa 2” oil spot under the left side of the bike so there is a small oilleak.  The front of the tank has a fewknicks that need to be sanded out.  Tofit the Mikuni carbs with air cleaners the side covers did have to betrimmed.  The body work from Evan Wilcoxis raw aluminum with no coating so it requires maintenance to keep it lookingfresh.  The original SL350 fenders hadsome holes filled with weld and also had to be straightened – they look greaton the bike but have some imperfections. This bike has a few shake down miles to confirm that all is in working order but is still very fresh from the restoration.A $1000 deposit will be due within 24 hours of the auction closing.Buyer is responsible for shipping. Please ask questions before bidding.  I know this bike well.  I am happy to talk on the phone with buyers that are serious. Thanks for your interest!
