For sale: A 1966 Triumph T120R Bonneville restoration.
Only OEM parts were used when replaced.
The buyer will receive list of suppliers.
The bike now has only 21 miles on it to bed the rings.
Of course, for the next few hundred miles it should
follow the break in procedure in the manual. There are several upgrades made to this machine for safety and reliability. New bearings and seals were installed throughout the bike including engine, gearbox, frame and wheels. Swing arm bushes have been replaced.
An oil filter has been installed. The engine has many new parts The mew OEM later cams which are nitride cams were installed. The standard now for high output for 650s is the exhaust cam of 70-9989 and the intake of 70-3134. Moly Cam Shield was used on the cams and tappets (lifters). All other critical engine parts were assembled with TORCO assembly lube.
New guide blocks were installed. The main journals are standard size.
The sludge trap and crank
screw were replaced.
ARP con rod high strength bolts were installed using the stretch method and ARP gauge and stretched the proper number of times. New pistons were installed and standard sized big end shells.
The point’s plate was upgraded to the 6CA version and the auto-advance is now 12 degrees as well. A new high volume OEM oil pump and a new oil pressure indicator switch were installed.The head had all new seats installed. All guides, valves, springs, collars and collets were installed. Mr. Leo Goff from Memphis Machine Werks did the head work. New exhaust spigots were installed correctly by him.In addition, the cases, inner gearbox cover and head were vapor blasted, not bead blasted.
Much smoother. The aluminum covers are polished not chromed. A new original exhaust system was installed. The header clamps are the old original Triumph clamps. There are no leaks as Yamabond#4 was used for all sealing of cases and covers.
There was not a need for gaskets on the inner and outer gearbox covers as originally they were not used. There are no leaks, engine or gearbox. The carburetors are new Amal Premier 930s.
All the cables and fittings, cover sleeves and washable intake filters for the carbs are new.
In addition, all controls on the handlebars are new including electrics.
All cables on the bike are lubricated with Phil waterproof grease.In the gearbox the main shaft bush and clutch rod were replaced and the main shaft high gear and new cover plate in the primary upgraded to the later model with the steel high gear coming through the oil seal, not the bush.
All other gears were good except one and it was replaced with an OEM one.
The outer gearbox cover is a new OEM part. All five springs in the outer cover were replaced and the gears shifted just right. A new 19 tooth G/B sprocket and nut were used. The primary side was completely worn out.
New parts replaced were all the clutch plates, clutch hub, rollers, engine sprocket, Reynolds primary chain, chain wheel and correct steel backed copper thrust washer, clutch nut, springs, rubbers, pressure plate (with upgraded adjusting pin size) and plate adjusting bolts and nuts, rear sprocket and Reynolds rear chain. All were sourced from TMS in Nottingham, England.
The primary cover is a new OEM part. The bike has a front end from a 69 Bonneville to take advantage of the twin leading shoe vented front brake.
The front end has new bushes and internal parts.
Included is the new, chromed dust excluder sleeve nuts and spring abutments so that the newer gaiters from the 69 model were used.
Also installed are original Leak Proof fork seals which are still available, amazingly. The headlight ears and headlight shell were replaced with OEM parts. The original bottom triple tree was retained and has the original lock. The original rims were chromed and new stainless steel spokes and nipples from Buchanan were installed. New K-70 tires, front and rear, with installed.The frame was powder coated and all the black sheet metal parts were painted with Imron. The chain guard is new from England.
The oil tank is a 69 OEM part with the oiler and the correct T at the bottom for the oil supply.
The rear brake plate is new.
The rear fender is new and the last one Tri-Cor made on the original machines. It is highly polished stainless steel not chrome. Fender washers were used to prevent cracks.The seat is a 1969 seat as it is very comfortable.
It is used with the original J hinges and with a 5/8 inch spacer on the front J hinge that makes the seat fit the early frame perfectly. The pillion foot pegs are new and sourced from a dealer in Austria and are OEM complete. All fasteners were re-cadmium plated or replaced by correct CEI fasteners by part number from the parts book. Many special nuts were chromed. The engine covers are not chrome but polished aluminum.
The rear brake lever is chromed. New engine covers are the primary cover, the timing cover and the outer gearbox cover.
The fuel tank is painted in the '66 colors of Grenadier Red and Alaskan White by Mr. Ed Carlson of Tucson. The inside of the tank was coated with Caswell.
New tank badges painted with the Alaskan white, knee pads, petcocks and new fuel lines and clamps were installed. After all transfers (decals) were applied they were all covered by Imron clear coat.The electrical system is upgraded with single point ground, fuse buss and relays for the headlight and horn and a Tympanium regulator.
Full diagrams and explanations will be provided the new owner. All connections were made with correct color-coded parts from British Wiring with heat shrink and NOALOX or silicon jointing. All switches are new. Additionally, ground wires were run from the taillight and instrument lights to the common point ground.
New Smith’s instruments are installed. This bike is advertised in local areas so a $1000.00, non-refundable deposit is due upon agreement of sale, with full payment due within 7 days of purchase. Then only PayPal or a Cashier’s check are accepted.
Buyer will also be responsible for the pickup and shipping of this motorcycle at his or her own expense. I will not store the bike indefinitely.
Due to advanced age I cannot load it.
As stated, all wiring diagrams, copies of most receipts and assembly books are available with the sale.
This includes an original parts book unused.
The sale of this motorcycle is final.
The bike and clear title will be transferred with full payment.
