1966 Pontiac GTO The GTO line was now a separate series with distinctive trim on the new Tempest sheet metal. A wire mesh grille insert without horizontal divider bars was used. The grille incorporated rectangular parking lamps and a GTO nameplates on the left-hand side. A single scoop appeared on the hood, elongated V-shaped badges were mounted behind the front wheel openings. GTO lettering appeared on the deck lid and rear fenders. Standard equipment included all LeMans items, plus a special 389-cid four-barrel V-8, dual exhaust, heavy-duty shock absorbers, springs and stabilizer bar: and 7.75 x 14 redline or whitewall tires. This 1966 GTO is a remarkable example. The GTO was part of an estate, and it had been in storage for a number of years. Consequently, there were a host of mechanical and cosmetic issues that needed to be addressed. The decision to go forward, and to ultimately and successfully, bring it to turnkey condition, was easy based on the condition of the car as a whole.
