Cooper Classics is honored to present a stunning and highly correct Porsche 356A Convertible D, one of the rarest 356 variants in existence. We have bought and sold some of the finest 356 Convertible Ds on the market, and we are pleased to report that this may be the nicest one we have seen. We acquired this beautiful Convertible D from a collector in Massachusetts who owned it since the 90s. As a die-hard enthusiast, this gentleman drove his Convertible D and enjoyed it, and significantly improved the car incrementally, documenting the process with invoices and receipts throughout his 3 decade ownership of Chassis #86707. As time passed, he desired to switch from a 356 Convertible D to a Ferrari Dino 246, so he elected to part ways with his treasured Convertible D. When we acquired the car, we commissioned a full and comprehensive interior restoration to match the Kardex/COA to its original color, including a new soft top and top cover. No stone was left unturned. Every single aspect of the interior was addressed, with new, correct color and type materials, proper installation procedures and top notch craftsmanship, courtesy of the Paterek Brothers in NJ. All materials were sourced from famed Porsche interior supplier, Autos International in California. The interior, seats, carpets, soft top, and boot cover were completed in 2022 and the result is a stunning new interior which of course is the result of hours of research and consultation with both 356 and Convertible D experts. The matching numbers engine was rebuilt in 2014, approx. 2500 miles ago by renowned Porsche expert George Nelson of GN Engineering, with a big bore kit (using Shasta Designs 83mm/9.25CR Pistons and Cylinders). The transmission is a desirable, later 741/2C, short shift unit with better gear ratios. The car has 4 wheel discs, from a later 356 which makes it a much safer driver, and provides confident and sharp stopping power. The result is an excellent driving car that is ready to be used and enjoyed, or placed in even the most discerning Porsche collection. The car retains all of its original stamped panels and is highly unmolested and correct. This rare and seldom seen 356 Convertible D is offered with its COA, Kardex, Records, Jack, Spare Key, Period Advertisements/Brochures, Books, and spare wheel.
