Description

This motorcycle was purchased new from Fordyce Harley Davidson in Riverside, California in 1959. I purchased the motorcycle from the original owner in 1980 (see the picture of the letter from the original owner with a little history of the bike and the picture he included). The bike had about 85,000 miles when I purchased it and I have only added about 6,000 miles since then. I had the speedometer rebuilt shorty after purchasing the bike and it was reset back to zero miles at that time. This motorcycle still has the original paint. It's a little worn on top of the gas tanks as you can see in the pictures but otherwise in excellent condition. No dents or scratches. Take a look at the cold start video; after a couple of primer kicks, the bike starts on the first or second kick. If the bike sits for a long time, a couple more primer kicks may be necessary.I have made a few of changes since purchasing the bike:The larger turn signals (1963 and later) were replaced with the correct Guide turn signals (1958 - 1962).The plastic saddlebags with the 1962 and later emblem were replaced with a pair of NOS saddlebags with the correct emblem. These saddlebags still look brand new.I added a pair of original spotlights (correct for 1959).I removed the frame-mounted buddy seat and replaced it with the solo seat. I still have the original buddy seat and it comes with the bike.New Coker tires were installed for riding safety (with the correct whitewall design for 1959).The original gas caps were stolen when the first owner took the bike to the San Jose races in September, 1979. He replaced the caps with a locking after-market set (see pictures). I am not sure who manufactured these but I always liked them and never replaced them. What has been done mechanically:Top end has been rebuilt with new valves, guides, pistons, rings, etc.Lower end inspected and found to be sound, the flywheel was balanced.Original Linkert carburetor has been rebuilt.Front and rear wheel bearings replaced.Brake system refreshed with master cylinder rebuild and new rear wheel cylinder.6-volt battery replaced about a year ago.All work has been professionally done by Highway Choppers in Glendale, Arizona. They have been in business for more than 40 years and specialize in the restoration of antique and classic Harley Davidsons. I have all receipts for work going back more than 10 years. What is also included with purchase of the bike:Original and authentic owner's manualLetter and picture from the original ownerMaintenance receiptsOriginal frame mounted buddy seat (like new, no rips or tears)Front and rear bumper guardsLuggage rackCorrect Harley windshield (upper plastic has been replaced with an after-market piece)Hard to find saddlebag guards including the rare rear bumper pieceThis is a rare opportunity to purchase an original paint, unrestored 1959 Panhead. I am getting a little too old to kick start and ride this bike so it's time to pass it on to someone who can truly appreciate this classic and give it the attention it deserves.A $500 deposit is required within 48 hours of purchase with the balance due within 7 days. Deposit accepted via PayPal but the balance must be a bank wire transfer or cashiers check.THE MOTORCYCLE IS SOLD AS-IS WITH NO WARRANTIES IMPLIED OR EXPRESSED.Shipping is at the expense of the buyer. I am not interested in trades of any kind. Do not ask to buy any of the accessory pieces as they come with the bike purchase only. If you are seriously considering purchasing this bike and would like more information, feel free to contact me through the normal Ebay channels.
