Extremely uncommon, one year design, and the very first twin constructed by BMW after WWII. Let me begin by stating this bike is in remarkable running and riding condition, and I would not be reluctant to get on it, start it in one or 2 kicks as it constantly does, and ride it anywhere. I have owned it for about 13 years, and a full mechanical and partial cosmetic restoration was finished 8 years earlier. I have put 1900 problem totally free miles on ever since, and it is ready for much more. The engine, geabox, and back side were entirely reconditioned; the bike was still on the stock bore after over 50 years (!) and still within tolerance, but I decided to bore it to first over and install new pistons. The frame and sheet metal had the really good surface which is still on it and were simply rubbed and polished. Some smaller sized items were refinished, all hardware plated, and every bearing and seal replaced. Exhaust system, correct 3.5 mm spokes (now impossible to discover), and all rubber was changed with brand-new. The battery is a dry cell housed in a custom made shell with the original leading cover to look appropriate, however without the threat of any acid spillage. A rear brake light switch was contributed to appear like a factory item, and not such as an add-on as numerous do. Mileage on speedo is not original ... ...
