1947 Lincoln History The Lincoln Motor Company (also known just as Lincoln) is a division of the Ford Motor Company that offers luxury vehicles under the Lincoln brand. Henry Leland, a former manager of the Cadillac division of General Motors, and his boy, Wilfred Leland, formed The Lincoln Motor Company in August, 1917. Leland named the brand-new business after Abraham Lincoln, his hero and for whom he cast a vote in 1864. The very first Lincoln Continental was developed as Edsel Ford's one-off individual car, though it is thought he planned the whole time to put the design into production if effective. Ford's Lincoln division remained to produce the Continental for design years 1946 to 1948. Like all other post-war Lincolns it received upgraded trim, consisting of a new grill, to freshen the design. Walnut interior trim was included in 1947.
