The Lincoln Motor Company (also understood just as Lincoln) is a department of the Ford Motor Company that offers luxury cars under the Lincoln brand. Henry Leland, a former manager of the Cadillac division of General Motors, and his child, Wilfred Leland, formed The Lincoln Motor Company in August, 1917. Leland called the brand-new company after Abraham Lincoln, his hero and for whom he cast a vote in 1864. The first Lincoln Continental was developed as Edsel Ford's one-off individual automobile, though it is believed he prepared all along to put the model into manufacturing if successful. Ford's Lincoln department remained to produce the Continental for design years 1946 to 1948. Like all other post-war Lincolns it got upgraded trim, including a new grill, to revitalize the design.
