1940sKayNatural Gloss FinishArchtop Acoustic GuitarUsed - Fair, but Playable Condition
This is a beautiful looking vintage Kay archtop! It features laminated mahogany top, back, and sides with checkerboard binding around the top; a mahogany neck, a rosewood fretboard, 3-on-a-plate Kluson tuners, and a trapeze tailpiece. According to our research, the label on the inside is the labels used by Kay in the 1930s, but the headstock has the Kay logo with three lines above and below the "a" which would make this guitar a 1940s model, likely an early 1940s. As you would expect from a guitar approaching 80 years of age (if it hasn't hit that mark already), this archtop has some obvious wear and tear, but it still sounds incredible!
Cosmetic and Functionality DescriptionBody: the binding is completely intact; the top, back, and sides all show some easily noticeable scuff marks, scratches, dings, and dents as well as a couple of chips, but there are no cracks anywhere, plus there is some really cool checking in the lacquer--heavy buckle rash; the pickguard is missingNeck, Fretboard, and Headstock: the fretboard has some obvious scuff marks and scratches, plus there are some dips and chips in the fretboard on both sides of the first three frets, which appear to not be original; the neck heel is separating a bit; the back of the neck shows rather heavy wear with some large chunks chipped out between the nut and 6th fret position, plus a number of scuff marks and scratches can be seen; the headstock has some easily noticeable scuff marks, scratches, and scrapes that can be seen on the front, back, and sidesAction and Playability: the action is high likely due to the neck heel separation as the neck is straightFrets: light to moderate wear with the first three frets being non-original and showing light wear and the middle frets showing light to moderate wear with some small grooves starting to form, plus the first three frets do not appear to be seated completely, however there is no buzz or fret out caused by this Hardware: the bridge appears to have been adjustable at one point, but the adjustment wheels are missing now; the plastic tuner button for the D-string had a piece chipped off that we glued back on; the tuners show some obvious rust spots and pitting; the tailpiece has some rust spots and pitting on the plate that attached to the body, while the actual trapeze part looks much better, but still has a bit of dullness in the finishIncludes: acoustic guitar (case/gig bag not included)FeaturesArchtop acoustic guitarLaminated mahogany top, back, and sidesNatural gloss finishCheckerboard binding around the topMahogany neckRosewood fretboard19 frets, 14 frets to the bodyPearl dot inlaysKluson 3-on-a-plate open-gear tunersRosewood bridgeTrapeze tailpieceLower bout width: 15.5"Lower bout body depth: 3.75"Scale: 25.75" scaleNut width: 1-5/8"Made in U.S.A.Buy used and save big!
