In the mid 1930's, the Packard Automobile Company found itself a
producer of fine automobiles that lacked customers. The market
crash of 1929 had left the automobile market reeling, and the
hardest hit companies were those who specialized in luxury and
ultra luxury automobiles. The Packard Six was reintroduced for the
1937 model year in an effort to help Packard gain market share in
the affordable mid-size family car arena. This segment was hotly
contested, and the Packard vied for attention amongst other
competitive products from Oldsmobile, Desoto, LaSalle and the like.
The Six was a well-appointed automobile that had distinctive
styling and excellent reliability. The stunningly gorgeous Packard
Six cataloged here was delivered new to the Jenkins Motor Co. in
Cartersville, Georgia. It was kept by the original owner until the
late 1960's when it was sold to the second owner, and continued to
be used and enjoyed until it was finally parked in the early 70's.
It sat in a shed until it was purchased and restored in 1979 by Mr.
James B. Wagnon Jr. of Chatanooga, Tennesse. This was a complete
body off restoration with many new parts while other parts were
cleaned, restored, and reused. This beauty queen has been very
sparingly used since and looks amazing for an almost fifty-year-old
restoration. The current owner has recently replaced the water
pump, fuel pump, carburetor, and brand-new whitewall tires have
been installed in the name of safety and road worthiness. The
electrical system has been updated to 12 volts for starting power
while the system voltage has been limited to 7.8 volts for the
functionality of the original instruments and lighting. An
aftermarket digital voltmeter and rpm gauge have been fitted at the
base of the steering column to assist the driver in monitoring
these important functions. This classy Packard is an easy driver
that floats down the road and effortlessly maintains 55+ mph. The
interior is a wonderful place to be, and the backseat has more room
than even today's luxury sedans. They sure do not build them like
this anymore, and that is a shame. This Packard would be a great
long road trip companion that allows you to see the world through a
different time period and draws attention wherever you go. Contact
