1965 Churchill with Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Coin (#128 - CC22) - $18 Attention collectors, coin buffs & enthusiasts!!! This is a very rare Five Shilling piece. To commemorate the death of the great man, Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill, in 1965, a commemorative crown was issued. He was renowned throughout the world as a great statesman, and described as "the greatest living Englishman". With the issue of this coin, Churchill became the first commoner to be portrayed on a British coin. Only 9,640,000 coins were made. This is a very somber looking portrait of Sir Winston Churchill, and we are all sure he would be the first to admit that he was not pretty and not exactly flattering. It has been said that this is the least attractive British coin ever issued but this is a very popular collector coin. After the death of the great wartime leader Sir Winston Churchill, this was the final crown before decimalization (breaking it down) was struck in 1965. Particulars
