National Casket Co. Top Veneer & Brass Fittings Embalming Table.

When someone died in your home in the mid 1800's, the funeral director would take this table to the house, set it up and proceed to embalm the body. This table was made by the National Casket Co. and showcased their brand-new procedure of veneering and use of brass hardware. The table frame is made from what seems oak, has actually turned legs and the hinges, lock and handle appear to be solid brass. This was discovered in a New England barn and is in "as discovered" condition.

Measures: Folded 36" x 18" x 6" When the legs are unfolded, it stands approx. 24" high.

Condition: It is evident that National Casket Co. did not have an advantage with the veneer. As it became wet it separated/delaminated. The body of the table is solid (oak?) and none of the legs have any damage. The veneer might be recovered or your might remove all of it and change it with another piece of wood and utilize the veneer as a pattern to drill the holes in the original pattern. The table made use of to tip up at the waist of the person being embalmed, but the hinges there are not present and the section has been pin down. There used to be a "head block" that fit into the three holes that is missing out on. This would make for a great restoration task and the table would always be a conversation piece. This is a fascinating and really uncommon piece of history, much history has been on it. Being offered as is. We are open to offers. Significant inquires only. We are not replying to spam, leave a phone number and we will certainly get back to you. Thank you.
