Super Rare, Super Rare, Super Rare Less than 100 known in the world. Most likely the only one in KY, OH, IN
Be the only one in 3 states to have an 1800 Gold Eagle
They only made 5,999 back in 1800 and congress who authorized minting of this coin put too much gold in the coin so it was worth more melted down than the $10 face value. So guess what most prople did? Melted them down back in 1800 and only about 100 have survived.
This coin is undervalued because in 1799 they minted 37,499 coins which is 6 times the number of coins minted in 1800 and in 1801 they minted 43,344 which is 7 times the number of coins minted in 1800 but yet according to the price guides both coins in any grade below MS60 are worth the same. How can a coin that is 6 or 7 times more rare be worth the same? How can a coin that only about 100 exist be worth the same as a coin where thousands exist?
The answer is they can not be worth the same and the pricing guides have miss priced this coin it should be worth significantly more than 1799 or 1801
