"Kids' Book of Adventure Projects", probably best for ages 8 to 16, which describes fifteen projects, scientific devices, toys and "magic" gismos. Many items use recycled items or wood scraps, plastic lids, cardboard tubes, paper sacks, Oatmeal box covers, etc. with a comment in chapter 1 on uses for throwaway items. These are not coloring pictures or paper mache'. A lot of knowledge is packed into the book along with skills to make a kid gain confidence in their abilities to solve problems and learn and build a real toy with their own hands! These are also ideal as Father-son projects. A lot of the toys are historic. Done as in the old days when we were kids. There are several wooden toys which can be made using a safe saw for kids, the Coping Saw. Toys include a Boomerang, Kaleidoscope, Barometer, Compass, Kite, Sextant, Toothpick Glider, A Magic Propeller (Whimmydiddle, a historic pioneer toy) wherin rubbing a stick on another causes a propeller to spin; A Movie Ghost Box, which shows how ghosts were produced in movies before computer graphics. Fifteen projects in all. Also a wooden model airplane made as in the 1950's of thin sticks-or even toothpicks- and covered in paper. (A grocery sack!)
