Product Description This is a collection of 55 actual solved and unsolved murder cases that occured in Fort Wayne, IN and surrounding areas between the years 1854 and 1932. It shows the darker side of NE Indiana, but no matter where you live you will find these stories so interesting it will be hard to put down. Illustrations and photos are included to give you a better glimpse into the victim's life. The story that touched the hearts of most people was that of a 12 year old orphan boy named Charlie Coats. In 1910, Charlie went to live with an Amish family in Grabill, IN. The brutality and torture inflicted on the child ultimately led to his death and he was buried in a peaceful corner of the farm's pasture. Incredibly, after the release of this book, an Amish man from Grabill contacted me. He said his brother now lives in the farmhouse where this tragedy happened, but no one ever knew the horrors that happened there. He also knew of a grave in a corner of a field, but no one knew who was buried there. After 98 years.... Charlie Coats has been remembered. This book is dedicated to my mother, Margaret E. Lee who was murdered Oct. 7, 1985 and remains unsolved. I know all too well the devastating meaning of the yellow tape and having to step over it to enter the building where my mother lay dying. This led to a personal need to keep my mother's memory alive and sparked an interest in the forgotten lives of other murder victims. I chose these decades-old crimes because I strongly feel no murder victim should be forgotten, and in recalling a person's death, much consideration should be given to any possible surviving family members. It is hard enough for a survivor to regain a sense of normalcy after such a devastating act, much less to be callously reminded of of their loss. You are torn between wanting to keep the memory of your loved one alive a a feeling of guilt when you try to forget. I hope the stories in this book reflect my compassion for all involved. As you read each victim's story - for a brief moment- that victim's memory will be alive again. About the Author Bobbie Lee is a Fort Wayne, IN native.
