Single Homeless Project was founded in 1975 by a group of homeless people seeking an alternative to rough sleeping or staying in common lodging houses or "spikes". Whilst we have grown beyond recognition from those early days, these origins have continued to shape the way we work and our vision of a society where everyone has a place to call home and the chance to live a fulfilling life.
We are helping more people than ever before, working with over 10,000 Londoners last year, from those in crisis to those taking the final steps towards independence, as well as working in new ways, evolving our services, tackling prejudices, and forging new relationships.
With an estimated one in 50 people in London homeless and the biggest increase in those forced to sleep rough on our city's streets since records began, the Board is in the process of developing a new strategy to further SHP's mission and we are now looking for new Trustees to contribute to this process and to help guide SHP through turbulent times and to our next stage.
Unremunerated (Travel costs and out of pocket expenses are covered.)
Time Commitment - approx. one day per month
We are seeking to appoint new Trustees who may have a background in the following areas: fundraising, marketing and communications, strategic HR experience, finance/audit, policy, especially around homelessness, housing or public health. This is not an exhaustive list and if you feel you can bring other skills that would help the Board, then please apply.
We are committed to developing a Board of Trustees that reflects the diversity of our employees and the people that we support. Women, Black, Ethnic Minority and LGBTQIA+ people and people with disabilities are currently under-represented on our Board. We particularly encourage applications from you if you are from one of these under-represented groups and have the skills and expertise we seek. Improving the diversity of our Board of Trustees is an important priority for SHP.
