Sustainability Programme Officer
Advert closing date is 7 January 2024.
Do you have significant experience of managing climate change programmes and are looking for your next career development opportunity?
Can you lead and develop decarbonisation and adaptation programmes that will drive forward our performance on climate action? Are you able to build strong and effective partnerships across diverse organisations to support our climate goals? If so, we would love to hear from you.
Sheffield has a bold vision for a net zero-carbon city by 2030 working with our partners, residents, businesses, and city institutions to help make this a reality. It has recently adopted the first of its Decarbonisation Routemaps and there is huge potential for innovative new projects in the city; from heat network expansion, rural flood mitigation, community renewable energy schemes and retrofit of our 36,000 council homes. Sheffield reported to the Carbon Disclosure Project for the first time last year and received a score of A-, meaning that we are at the top end of reporting cities in the European Union. You'll be expected to have proven professional excellence in the field of climate change and considerable experience in the governance and delivery of decarbonisation programmes and projects.
With excellent verbal and written communication skills, you will be able to build strong relationships and have experience of preparing business cases, securing funding or investment, and possess robust financial management skills.
If you join us, you will enjoy a supportive, flexible work environment, and have the chance to be part of a dedicated team, helping to shape a sustainable future for our fantastic, friendly, outdoor city.
We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly. Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.
Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
Interview: Week commencing 22 January 2024
