Job Title: Support Worker/Personal Care Assistant

Hours/shifts: Up to 6 hours per week, weekends and school holidays. Times to be arranged.
Summary
I am looking for support for my 15 year old son who is Deaf and has additional needs including ADHD and anxiety.
He uses British Sign Language to communicate.
You would be required to support him with accessing leisure activities such as badminton, tennis, swimming. He also has a dog so you may occasionally be asked to help him with dog walking. He also loves watching Dr Who on tv.
You should have some experience of working with Deaf people and using BSL. BSL Level 3 qualification preferred but not essential.
Driver with own car required. Reasonable mileage will be reimbursed when taking the young person out.
You must be friendly, patient, understanding and able to motivate and encourage the young person to participate in activities.
Other Requirements
• Must be comfortable with dogs
• Non-smoker preferred or someone who is willing to refrain from smoking during work hours.

Personal Care:
Encouragement to complete personal care tasks when out e.g. getting dried/changed at swimming pool
Social:
Motivate young person to go out.
Accompany young person when accessing social and leisure activities
Use your own car to take him to activities
Person specification
The successful applicant will be:
Have experience of working with Deaf people and using British Sign Language
Qualified in BSL Level 3 – preferred but not essential
A driver with own car
Friendly and cheerful

Reliable with good time-keeping
Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised
Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties

Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
