As a Solar PV and Hot Water Panel installer for the past 8 years, I have much knowledge to check if the system you bought is still running at its optimum performance.
Many Solar inverters have been installed in a hard to access loft, if you can get to the inverter do you know how to read the screen (if it has one) to ensure the system is still running.
If when your solar system was installed was a south facing roof but 10 years later a tree has grown and some of the branches are creating shade over just 1 panel, 1 panel is covered by 50% of shade, the panel will run at 50%, due to the way Panels are connected in series all of the panels connected behind it will also run at 50%, so this could be a reduction of 50% for the whole system.
Using self-employed installers – Many Solar companies over the past 10 years used self employed installers to install the customers purchased systems, due to the moneys paid to installers versus time, many systems have been installed incorrectly, the problems left by the installers would normally lead to a water leak from the roof, it can be hard to detect this as many skilled roofers, will not be able to remove the solar panels to detect the fault, small things would have been left, like a cracked tile or a tile that has been left up when it should have been pulled down over the hook to seal the roof from water ingress.
Services
1. – Visual inspection of Solar installation to identify any problems
– Check Voltage of solar strings to ensure electrical connections have not been compromised.
Check installation date again Electrical generation.
2. Cleaning – cleaning is essential on a PV system as a splatter of bird droppings could result in a huge percentage drop in panel performance.
3. If additions are required to enhance your installed system, I will give recommendations of a registered MCS solar company to ensure you get the best price to carry out further works.
4. Cost – To visually check the system and test the voltage the charge will be only £45, travelling will be free from a radius of 20 miles from Portsmouth, many faults will show up from the voltage check.
