Belcan is excited to announce a brand new position working with an organisation at the forefront of new product development and industrialization of Lithium-ion cells and batteries. As a Modelling & Simulation Engineer, you will collaborate with an innovative team of Professional Engineers and Scientists, contributing to ground breaking advancements in battery manufacturing technologies.
Role Overview:
The successful Modelling & Simulation Engineer will play a pivotal role in developing process simulation tools for battery manufacturing. Reporting directly to the Head of Product Engineering, you will work closely with Material Scientists, Quality and Manufacturing Engineers. The role will involve creating process models for various manufacturing stages including; mixing, coating, drying, and calendering.
Key Responsibilities:
You will develop and enhance process simulation tools for battery manufacturing. The focus will be on structural mechanics at micro and macro structural levels, fluid flow, and thermal processes. Work towards modelling next-generation manufacturing technologies. Provide datasets or surrogate models to support the development of machine learning and digital manufacturing capability.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
Master's Degree qualification (MEng, MSc, or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering with a grade 2:1 or higher.Experience in electrode manufacturing, preferably in battery, fuel cell, or semiconductor applications but other industry knowledge will be considered.Strong technical understanding of engineering first principles, covering fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and mechanics of materials.Proficient in CAE software tools such as COMSOL, Abaqus, STAR-CCM+, ANSYS (Mechanical and Fluent) in modelling multiphase and multi-level problems in both FEA and CFD.Experience in developing complex spreadsheet tools (e.g., Matlab) and performing "hand calculations."Knowledge of interpreting microstructure and material measurement data for input into simulation models.Familiarity with V&V and Agile methodologies in product delivery.Ability to disseminate and analyze both model and experimental data to provide clear and concise outcomes.
