They also work to secure the future of recreational facilities in former coal mining communities and work with local mining charities to ensure their services continue.
As a Senior Social Worker, your role is pivotal in providing professional leadership and management of service delivery within the regional personal welfare team. You will oversee a team of social work assistants, ensuring the provision of advice and support to former miners and their dependents. In addition to this, you'll actively promote the service within the local community and establish partnerships with other agencies for the benefit of our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the personal welfare team in the South England region, including office and home-based employees, to deliver a high-quality, outcomes-focused service for former miners and their dependents. Effectively manage casework, including case allocation and management. Handle a small caseload of clients when necessary, conducting high-quality assessments and providing appropriate interventions, such as welfare benefits advice, advocacy, emotional support, and practical guidance. Monitor service performance and improvement, taking action to address performance or practice issues. Provide support to the team through supervision, appraisal, case reviews, and observations. Act as the safeguarding lead for the region, advising and supporting team members to ensure adherence to the organization's safeguarding policy. Manage the delivery of interventions, primarily through a home visiting service, addressing issues related to welfare benefits, mobility, social isolation, and financial matters. Stay updated on relevant legislation and best practices, sharing this information across the team and the wider organization. Build and maintain productive relationships with professionals and partner agencies to ensure an integrated, holistic, and multidisciplinary approach. Contribute to the development of new services and approaches to meet evolving client needs. Play a role in developing and communicating the organization's strategic plan, ensuring awareness and buy-in across the team. Represent the organization at events and meetings, coordinating publicity and marketing of services in the region in collaboration with the head office. Engage in personal development to maintain safe and effective practice and facilitate a learning and development culture among team members. Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
Essential:
Degree in social work or equivalent social work qualification and current professional registration. Evidence of learning through continuing professional development and its application to practice and/or mentoring. Experience in leading/managing a team in a social care setting, managing caseloads, working with integrity and professionalism, and handling pressure effectively. Experience in community-based social care services, particularly with older people and/or disability services. Experience in implementing systems and processes and facilitating change. Experience in contributing to the development and updating of policies and practices in line with legislative changes and best practices. Strong knowledge of the welfare benefits system. Understanding of the values and principles underpinning work with vulnerable adults and their carers in the community setting. Knowledge of relevant legislation and good practices, especially concerning older people, mental health, and disability. Ability to build strong working relationships with team members, professionals, and clients, and encourage this in others. A valid driving license and access to a vehicle. Flexibility to travel across a wide geographic area with occasional overnight stays. Desirable:
Experience in social work practice teaching and/or practice teacher status or working towards it. Experience in the charity sector in a social care environment. Knowledge and understanding of the issues facing former mineworkers and mining communities.
