Senior Research Economist

Role:
The IFS is looking to recruit one or more outstanding senior research economists to join their team.
The role will include:
Undertaking high–quality and rigorous research on issues important to UK public policy publishable in high–ranking academic journals in a timely and efficient mannerEffectively presenting and disseminating research to academic and non–academic audiencesDeveloping rigorous and policy–relevant research ideas and taking the lead in writing research funding applicationsMentoring and development of more junior researchers, typically including formal line management responsibilities The Successful Applicant
Senior Research Economist
London
Hold at least one top–class degree (undergraduate, masters or PhD) in economics (post–graduate economics qualification preferred)At least four years of relevant experience, including extensive experience of working with data to answer research questions and developing ideas and/or shaping the analysisProven track record of managing projects and pushing them forward to completionFirst–rate written and oral communication skillsA commitment to political independence and to shaping public policy through evidence–based commentExpertise in the policy context and/or existing academic research in one of the areas listed below: – Tax Policy – a thorough understanding of tax policy and economics
– Education and Human Capital – knowledge of the factors that shape education and skills at different ages, and their relationship with other outcomes like health and crime
– Labour Markets and Welfare Benefits – understanding of how the UK labour market, welfare system, and interventions within these domains work to shape outcomes for individuals and families
– Justice – understanding of access to justice, pathways through the justice system and wider effects on well–being for those experiencing the justice system.
The successful candidate will have significant latitude to shape future research priorities within their team.
