The GLA are seeking to appoint a permanent Senior Research and Statistical Analyst to join the Strategic Crime Analysis Team based within their City Intelligence Unit.

The City Intelligence Unit is a multidisciplinary team responsible for providing the Mayor and the GLA with world-class evidence and analysis. Our work covers a wide range of topics including demography, economics, social policy, crime, and spatial analysis. We employ a growing number of data professionals, including data scientists, analysts, data engineers, and data visualisation specialists.

In this post, you'll help the Strategic Crime Analysis team deliver on several high-profile data-sharing projects. These projects concentrate on community safety issues and were introduced to help reduce crime and disorder within London. The role will focus mainly on the preparation of analytical products to inform the Mayoral priorities and increase the corporate understanding of crime and disorder issues within London.

Key responsibilities of the role include: the completion of multi-agency data analysis to help inform the provision of strategic reports to the London-based Community Safety Partnerships; the creation of regular reporting outputs in collaboration with the Information Sharing to Tackle Violence (ISTV) programme and the Mayor's Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC); the completion of strategic analysis in support of the wider work of the City Intelligence Unit, the GLA policy teams, the Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) and the Police and Crime Plan; and working to both maintain and expand upon the SafeStats service data provision.

The work undertaken in this role will contribute to making London a safer place to live, work and visit, through supporting the Mayor's priorities around crime, public safety, and public health.

Principal accountabilities

Work with a range of policy stakeholders across the GLA to understand their community safety evidence requirements and develop and undertake a series of research and analysis projects to meet these. Undertake both solo and collaborative data analysis and deliver relevant presentations to major stakeholders (including the GLA functional bodies, Local Authorities, and the London-based Violence Reduction Unit). Work collaboratively with both the Information Sharing to Tackle Violence (ISTV) Team and MOPAC's Evidence and Insight Unit on crime and disorder-related issues - complementing their analytical programmes of work as and when deemed necessary and appropriate. Disseminate evidence to a wide variety of internal and external audiences via a range of high-quality published reports, oral presentations, and written briefings to encourage robust strategy and policy development. Provide resilience across the Strategic Crime Analysis Team to ensure continuity of service, in terms of both SafeStats data provision and regular Team outputs. Contribute expertise and support to the wider work of the Demography and Policy Analysis (DPA) team and the City Intelligence Unit (CIU) as required. Represent the GLA at external meetings with professional organisations and other bodies in your specific area of analytical expertise. Deputise, as required, for the Head of Strategic Crime Analysis. PERSON SPECIFICATION

Technical requirements/experience/qualifications

A high level of numeracy, as evidenced by a good degree in a subject with a high statistical and analytical content as well as significant and substantial professional experience. Post-academic experience managing projects in statistics / analysis / research in a relevant and comparable environment, including skills in the analysis and interpretation of large complex datasets. Evidence of successful building and maintaining working relationships across professional and operational boundaries within an organisation, and with external organisations. The ability to convey complex technical information to a range of audiences via published reports, data tools, technical and instructional materials, and oral presentations. Evidence of significant and substantial experience using Excel (or a similar software program) for data entry, collation, and manipulation purposes. Behavioural competencies

This role is based at the London Fire Brigade's Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL).

GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
