Are you interested in playing a meaningful role in a key government Department that offers an exciting opportunity to be part of the decision making that affects the whole of the UK? We are seeking highly motivated individuals to work on levelling up the country's regions and nations.
There are two jobs available: one focuses on driving regional investment through delivery of two of the government's flagship local policies, Investment Zones and Freeports; the other helps to shape wider regional development strategy. Both are at the heart of the levelling up agenda and will involve close working across HM Treasury and with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to assess needs and opportunities in local economies, designing and delivering policy to address them.
What you will bring to the team:
These roles will provide you a great opportunity to develop policies that have a real impact on people, ensuring that everywhere can prosper. There will be some variation depending on which team you are in, but you will broadly be responsible for:
Shaping senior officials' and Ministers' views on your policy area. You will be a thought leader, staying up to date on the evidence and taking a creative problem-solving approach to provide excellent advice to seniors and Ministers on important issues Developing a network of positive working relationships within the department, across the Civil Service and wider sectors to ensure true collaboration in policy making Providing leadership to a small team, ensuring individuals have opportunities to develop their skills and establishing a positive and inclusive culture Whilst the policy areas differ in each team, the core skills that underpin good policy work are similar for all of our people. This includes the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at various levels, developing relationships that allow you to influence thinking at a senior level.
Alongside this, you'll able to make decisions based on a range of information, using your ability to assess conflicting evidence so there is real credibility in decision making.
