About us

ODI ( odi.org ) is an independent, global think tank. We work to inspire people to act on injustice and inequality. Through research, convening and influencing, we generate ideas that matter for people and planet.

About this role

Research, convening and influencing are at the heart of what we do, and the demand has never been greater for innovative solutions to the global challenges we collectively face.

Working in ODI's Development and Public Finance (DPF) programme, the Senior Communications Officer will deliver creative communications strategies and exciting events to engage target audiences with ODI research and insight around the themes of development finance and public finance. You will also be responsible for editorial, digital and publications support, overseeing the publication of DPF outputs, coordinating production processes and enhancing the visibility of DPF research through the ODI website and other digital channels.

While the Editorial and Communications Lead will be based within the DPF programme, they will also work with other programmes and initiatives to bring coherence to ODI's wider communications around development and public finance.

This position will support ODI's efforts to inform and influence how governments, international financial institutions and private sector organisations approach issues relating to development finance and public finance - ensuring that our public affairs and communications activities are strategic, creative and coordinated.

Key responsibilities include:

Working with DPF colleagues to develop and implement communications strategies covering projects within the DPF programme. Planning and coordinating an engaging portfolio of communications activities to strengthen DPF's engagement at critical policy-influencing moments, including international events, such as the G7/G20 Summits and the World Bank/IMF Spring and Annual Meetings. Supporting DPF's Director of Programme to position DPF's work as the go-to resource for analysis on development finance and public finance. Coordinating and delivering a range of events with leading figures from the development and public finance industries. Providing editorial support for DPF publications and digital outputs and coordinating the production of research papers. Leading DPF's digital communications, managing social media content and newsletters, and developing digital assets such as blogs, infographics and multimedia. About you

Demonstrable experience in the planning and delivery of strategic communications - working creatively to inform/influence policy outcomes. A keen interest in the topics of development finance and public finance. Proven experience of managing and convening activities and events. Demonstrable experience in digital communications, including website management, SEO, blogs, infographics and social media content. Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills and a proven ability to summarise technical research in clear, compelling language. Excellent organisational, prioritisation and project management skills. Ability to work to strict deadlines and under pressure. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work collegially with researchers, helping to shape research communications for target audiences. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise and communicate with colleagues at all levels of seniority and from different cultures. Experience of managing relationships with external agencies and freelancers. ODI is committed to developing and supporting diverse and inclusive teams of people who share our passion, where we can all be ourselves and succeed on merit. We welcome applicants from a range of diverse backgrounds, including those who experience intersectional marginalisation on the basis of their class, race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious identity or belief, marriage and civil partnership, and pregnancy and maternity. We also welcome applications from those living with disabilities.

We offer competitive salaries, a generous company pension scheme, hybrid working and a range of flexible, family-friendly and inclusive employment policies to support well-being and a healthy work/life balance.
