Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Buy-to-Let Underwriter to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating and underwriting buy-to-let mortgage applications, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations. The ideal candidate will bring in-depth knowledge of the buy-to-let market, strong analytical abilities, and a proven track record of making sound underwriting decisions.
Responsibilities:
Evaluate and underwrite buy-to-let mortgage applications, assessing risk factors, creditworthiness, and property valuations to make informed lending decisions.
Conduct thorough risk assessments, considering market trends, borrower financials, property values, and other relevant factors to determine the viability of buy-to-let loan applications.
Ensure all underwriting activities comply with company policies, regulatory guidelines, and industry best practices. Stay informed about changes in regulations affecting the buy-to-let market.
Work closely with internal teams, including sales, legal, and risk management, to facilitate a seamless underwriting process and address any outstanding issues in a timely manner.
Make sound and timely underwriting decisions, providing clear justifications for approvals or denials and offering guidance on potential mitigants for riskier applications.
Communicate effectively with brokers, borrowers, and other stakeholders, providing assistance, clarification, and guidance throughout the underwriting process.
Monitor and manage the performance of the buy-to-let mortgage portfolio, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters, sharing knowledge and expertise to enhance the overall underwriting team's capabilities.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a Buy-to-Let Underwriter, with a focus on senior-level responsibilities.
Strong understanding of buy-to-let market trends, property valuations, and lending risk factors.
Knowledge of regulatory guidelines and compliance requirements related to buy-to-let mortgages.
Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in underwriting assessments.
