Description

Welcome to Reach Academy Hanworth Park.

We are welcoming an incredible founding team to open, lead and grow our new school.

Our vision sets out that every single child must leave us prepared and ready to: live a life of choice and opportunity. For this vision to become a reality, we must ensure that we have excellent teaching and high quality provision to ensure that the school is highly inclusive for all pupils, including those with SEND. The successful candidate will have clear strategic oversight of the inclusive culture we are building.

We believe that all children are capable of extraordinary things and we want to ensure that our school demonstrates this. We want our students to believe in themselves and be surrounded by adults that both believe in them and know how to support them to reach their full potential.

Role overview:

Being part of a founding team opening a new school is the greatest privilege in the world.

Our vision sets out that every single child must leave us prepared and ready to live a life of choice and opportunity. For this vision to become a reality, we must ensure that we have consistent, excellent teaching and high quality provision to ensure that the school is highly inclusive for all pupils, including those with SEND.

Reach Academy Hanworth Park will open in September 2024 with children in Reception and Year 7. It will then grow organically each year until it is full, with the first Year 7 cohort sitting their GCSEs in 2029 and their A Levels in 2031.

We believe that all children are capable of extraordinary things and we want to ensure that our school demonstrates this. We want our students to believe in themselves and be surrounded by adults that both believe in them and know how to support them to reach their full potential. We also want our students to love their school whilst feeling nurtured and cared for.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to have clear strategic oversight of the inclusive culture we are building in our school to ensure that all students go on to live a life of choice and opportunity.

Role Details:

SENCo

Reports to: Co-headteachers, Matilda Browne and Louis Everett.

Start date: September 2024

Salary: Inner-London salary, commensurate with experience, with the possibility for SLT role for a suitable candidate

Location: Feltham

We embrace flexible working and have extensive experience of team members working flexibly. That said, starting a new school is complex and important work and it may be, therefore, that greater flexibility is something that comes in time.

Role responsibilities:

Ensuring that SEN is prioritised and understood by key stakeholders.

To advocate for SEN children and share a clear vision for SEN with your team that is consistent with our school values and ethos.

To confidently model best practice when it comes to SEN, and take time to develop the knowledge of your team so that they are highly effective. Where individuals lack subject knowledge, you ensure that they receive intensive coaching to enable rapid development. You challenge underperformance directly and in a timely manner.

Modelling exceptional classroom practice and a willingness to model to others.

Ensuring that all teachers have the knowledge and skills that they need to support SEN pupils, with the understanding that all pupils are unique but there are common solutions that will work for many.

Taking responsibility for ensuring that all statutory deadlines are met in a timely manner and effectively designate key tasks to those in your team.

To constantly problem solve to ensure that processes run smoothly and take time to ask staff, parents and pupils for their reflections.

To work closely with Hounslow SEN, and other boroughs where necessary, to ensure that pupils are receiving the support that they need.

Ensuring that interventions are set up and being carried out effectively. You think carefully about the necessity of each intervention and understand the balance between intervention and accessing a broad and balanced curriculum.

Supporting the Curriculum Leads to ensure that they have planned for how SEN pupils will access their curriculum.

Maintaining your own subject knowledge to an exceptionally high standard, ensuring that you are aware of innovation and new research in your subject area and in the wider educational sphere. Where appropriate you communicate this to staff in a timely and digestible way.

To consistently communicate the progress of students to parents as part of high-quality community engagement.

Promoting the school’s values and ethos through the development and implementation of policies, practices and procedures.

Establishing strong personal relationships with students and their families through introductory home visits and then consistent communication.

To help develop a school culture unwaveringly committed to providing students with a life of choice and opportunity.

Establishing strong relationships with colleagues and external professionals to work collaboratively for the benefit of all students and their families.

Establishing a culture of positive attendance where students and their families aspire to attend school every day.

To undertake and, when required, deliver the appraisal system and relevant training/professional development.

To undertake various other responsibilities as directed by the co-headteachers.
