Salary: GBP13.50–15.50 per hour
Hours: 8.15am – 4.00pm Monday to Friday, term time only
Start date: Mid–January start
Duration: Full academic year
Role Overview:
As a Science Technician, you will play a vital role in creating a stimulating and safe learning environment for students. Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing and setting up equipment and materials for science practical sessions, adhering to health and safety guidelines.Maintaining an organised inventory of laboratory equipment, chemicals, and materials, ensuring stock levels are sufficient and placing orders as needed.Assisting teachers and students during practical lessons, providing technical support and guidance.Conducting routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure their proper functioning and safety.Monitoring and enforcing health and safety regulations within the laboratories, prioritising the well–being of staff and students.Assisting in the proper disposal of hazardous waste materials following established protocols.Collaborating with the Science Department to develop and improve practical resources, experiments, and demonstrations.Supporting the Science Department in conducting demonstrations and experiments during open days and other school events. To excel in this Science Technician role, we are seeking candidates with the following qualifications and qualities:
Previous experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably within an educational environment.An interest in science and a basic understanding of scientific principles.Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.Strong attention to detail and a commitment to adhering to health and safety procedures.Good communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with teachers, students, and staff members.Proficiency in using basic laboratory equipment and familiarity with scientific software and computer applications.A proactive and flexible approach to work, adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.A relevant qualification in science or laboratory techniques is advantageous but not essential.
