We are looking for governors for our two special schools and special college in Manchester and Stockport. Governors are volunteers who play a key role in planning our schools' long-term future, aims, and values. They hold the senior leadership of the college to account for its management; quality of the teaching and learning; achievement, wellbeing and safety of pupils; and compliance with statutory responsibilities.
Our schools, Ashcroft and Inscape House, and our college, Bridge College, provide specialist education to students between 5-25 years, with a mixture of support needs. These include children who have complex emotional needs, as well as autistic children and young people with complex disabilities and profound multiple learning disabilities. We pride ourselves in working with each student to offering a bespoke education package that really does meet their needs.
What the role of governor involves
As a governor you will:
read the documents for and attend Governing Body meetings attend induction and relevant training events organised by the College or Together Trust get to know the School / College and its staff by visiting take on specific responsibilities appropriate to your experience and expertise (in this instance we are hoping it will be in quality of teaching and learning / curriculum and assessment of student progress) Benefits of the role

What you'll need
No specific qualifications are needed - just the time and expertise that will help to inform the School / College development and practice as above. We are however specifically seeking governors with the knowledge and expertise to take on specific responsibilities related to teaching and learning. (We are also looking for a Safeguarding governor.)
Whether you are new to school governance or have experience of this type of role, we would love to hear from you if you have experience in education and young people with disabilities and/or SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health). We are keen to recruit experienced teaching and learning specialists with the capacity to take on specific responsibilities related to that specialism.
Time commitment
We would expect the role to take up approximately 15-20 hours per term (each term lasting approximately ten weeks). Further detail is available the Role Descriptor below.
