**FOR SALE - A RARE DESIGN - PAIR OF ROYAL DOULTON**
**CANTERBURY PILGRIMS SERIESWARE 2 HANDLED VASES**
**D3188**
On offer is a pair of Royal Doulton series ware Canterbury Pilgrims Vases.
These appear to be a very rare design of vase with different scenes depicted to the norm.
Different scenes depicted on each vase with the " Canterbury Pilgrims " design.
The left hand side to view vase has 3 scenes to view - 2 scenes have groups of 6x horse backed pilgrims. One scene has an individual pilgrim who what appears to be playing some kind of musical instrument.
The right hand side to view vase has 2 scenes to view - 1 scenes has a group
of 8x horse backed (what appears to be) priests. The other view has 5 horse backed pilgrims - again what appears to be monks and in the front, the Widow of Bath,
(I am no expert in this matter so I apologies in advance for any character errors)
Both have the wording "Ye Canterbury Pilgrims" running around each vase nearer the top.
Both vases have an ivory background and dark green handles - all handles are intact .
each vase measures:
188mm height (7 3/8")
105mm diameter base (4 1/8")
65mm diameter top (2 1/2")
Royal Doulton and Canterbury Pilgrims back stamp on each base.
Pattern number D3188 also on each base.
There is also a pressed number on each base that appears to be 7270
(Could be 7278 as last digit is difficult to distinguish)
And also a letter "H" which I would presume would be from the artist.
This seriesware was in production 1909 and discontinued in 1939.
**Condition - overall good condition for their age with age related crazing. One vase has a chip on the rim which you can view on the photos**
