Reed Scientific are recruiting for a full–time Research Technologist with experience in technology development in the metals industry. Our client represents global miners, smelters and recyclers.
This role will initially be based on site, but can then progress into a hybrid / remote role.

In this role, the Research Technologist will support the industry in showcasing what this particular metal can do, building technical and commercial networks and initiating projects. The Research technologist will carry out desk research, horizon scanning, networking and coordination to expand the teams knowledge base, accelerate industry investment and boost R&D.
You will help to achieve strategic goals, including:
Accelerate implementation of emerging uses of this metal in green energy technologiesExpand recovery from secondary feedstocks especially including e–wasteExplore technology routes to low–carbon tin production Responsibilities and duties
Engage with industry stakeholders and the R&D community globally to understand and prioritise topics, projects and experts most likely to impact this metalUse digital technologies including AI to research and create knowledge spaces, including a mentored deep dive into the company archivesWork with agencies to launch an online showcase to demonstrate what the metal can do, highlight leading research and attract investorsGrow real–world networks, including events, social media, research clusters and investor forums to broker and accelerate new research and startupsIdentify and initiate new project opportunities to exploit technologies Essential Qualifications and Skills required
The ideal candidate will have graduated preferably in chemistry or materials science but otherwise in related disciplines with a minimum 2:1 and preferably also a PhD in a relevant fieldAt least five years' experience in technology development, ideally in the metals space.Experience in global information collation tasks including online curation, database research as well as identifying, calling/visiting, and interviewing stakeholders directly.Skilled in managing, analysing and presenting R&D information preferably directly to a commercial or investor audience, including digital and online outputsExperienced in R&D portfolio management, project management and research funding principles, preferably with some relevant trainingWilling to travel internationally, including CEO level meetings and lab visits. Knowledge and interest in global technology trends for energy, recycling & low–carbon extractionInterest and preferably ability in accelerating or automating knowledge workflow including AI tools.Experience in making and publishing digital media including videos, websites and social media Salary: GBP45k – GBP55k p/annumBenefits: BUPA serves as our private medical, company qualifying pension (10% of employees' gross annual salary, employee contribution is a minimum of 5%), discretionary bonus scheme, 27 days holiday plus bank holidays.
