Description

Department The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is a highly respected international research organisation conducting policy-relevant environmental and sustainable development research around the world. SEI’s York Centre (SEI-Y) has a team of around 50 staff and is based in the Science Faculty at the University of York. SEI York has a broad research profile covering 5 main research areas: air quality and climate change;citizen science; critical environmental governance; sustainable consumption and production; and environmental health and well-being. We have a strong academic track record as well as an international reputation of producing highly credible evidence-based science policy research. Over the past few years we have built up an enthusiastic Communications Team who are maximising the impactfulness of our research.

Role As Research Communications Manager, your primary role is to lead the successful operation and delivery of the communication function within SEI York, overseeing the work of our Research Communications Specialists and Research Communications Assistant. Your team will develop creative and timely content drawn from SEI York’s research projects, working closely with researchers to understand the audiences they want to reach to maximise impact. This includes reaching policy-makers and other decision-takers, including governments in the UK and overseas, those involved in international policy processes, and local and regional decision-takers.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed You will bring experience of working in the science-policy interface, particularly in the environment and development space. You will have experience of developing a communications strategy and leading a team to deliver on this. You will be able to build rapport with people of different backgrounds and experiences, working with them to achieve high impact communications. Your excellent time management, planning and organisational skills will allow you to prioritise communications opportunities as they arise.
