REDUCED TO £425 l need the room in my workshop so it has to go, a rare find ,this grandfather clock and dial , made by humphrey gainsborough the brother of thomas gainsborough the famous artist, in henly on thames about 1740 , humphrey gainsborough was a minister in henly and was also a famous inventor and clock maker, but he was not a painter , so maybe he asked his brother to paint the clock dial for him, ? maybe someone can verify this by studying the paintings on the dial , the clock is a massive 86 inches tall x 19 inches wide x 11 inches deep, it has had quite a life, it was used for many years as a stage prop and over those years the mechanism and weights got lost, it was then a shop fitting and had a quartz movement fitted for use in the shop, the case is in excellent conditon considering it is about 283 years old, and one of the best things about this clock is the last picture it is a portrait of the clock maker humphrey painted by his brother thomas in about 1770 humphrey died in 1776, so in all a very rare clock case, buyer collect
