Description

AWE currently have excellent opportunities for Radiation Protection Support Specialist to join our Materials and Analytical Science group, bringing their experience to AWE and to successfully play a key role delivering for our customers.

The Radiation Protection and Dosimetry Group (RP&D) are responsible for providing legal and technical advice to a range of internal and external customers regarding health and safety in relation to radioactive materials and other sources of ionising radiation. No other organisation in the UK provides radiation protection advice across the same range of applications and customers, from plutonium manufacturing facilities to forensic laboratories, from some of the most powerful X-ray machines in the world to national security operations.

No other organisation in the UK provides radiation protection and dosimetry advise across the same range of applications and customers. Our work covers everything from nuclear manufacturing facilities to forensic laboratories, new build facilities to decommissioning old ones and working on national security operations. Each present their own unique set of challenges meaning that every day is different.

Working within the RP&D Group within the Materials and Analytical Sciences (MAS) Sub-Function, you will have the opportunity to use your radiation protection knowledge to independently support the provision of advice and services to ensure that AWE and its customers remain compliant with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017, Licence Condition 18 and other relevant legislation.

We are looking to recruit a Radiation Protection Support Specialist to join our team. Beneficial for the candidate to have working experience in areas such as health physics, dosimetry, environment, radioactive waste management, health and safety (ESH) or other associated fields. Requirement to be able to use word, excel, PowerPoint, outlook, Teams, and be able to communicate effectively in oral and written complication.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities will include:

To support the delivery of core radiation protection within assigned areas of responsibility, manage the day-to-day running of these services and ensure that associated deliverables are completed to a high standard in terms of quality and efficiencies, to ensure confidence from customers and efficient ways of working for the business.Complete assigned projects related to the improvement of radiation protection, radiological metrology andor dosimetry services or technical underpinning.Support the delivery and administration of radiation protection training such as Radiation Safety, Barrier training, Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) and others as required.Regularly assess RP&D training for effectiveness and consistency and engage with the lead for training and the senior technical team.To collate data to support the production of the RP&D Visual Management Board (VMB) by using the company ITRAC process.If required, to support the operation of the AWE Radioactive Item Registry (ARIR).To maintain office supplies to support the RP&D group.The list above is not exhausted, and additional accountabilities or responsibilities could be assigned if required.

The role will also provide development opportunities to become a member of the Society of Radiation Protection or other relevant professional bodies.

All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. The successful candidate should also be willing and able to work in designated areas where the need arises
