This is an exciting and stimulating opportunity for a talented Public Affairs Officer who is keen to use their skills and experience to successfully amplify the voices of the Fellows and members The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR).
The Public Affairs Officer is instrumental in establishing the RCR as a key player in the health agenda, authoritative and 'go to' on all aspects of clinical radiology and clinical oncology among parliamentarians, civil servants and Key stakeholders as well as supporting relevant press activity. You will play a key part in raising the value of our medical specialties to MPs and Peers in the UK parliament, supporting our campaigning by using the media and provide advice to RCR representatives on appropriate responses in the devolved administrations.
A key challenge will be making the case for increased capacity in the radiology and oncology workforce against the backdrop of an already understaffed NHS, as well as further investment in equipment and IT infrastructure, and the embedding of artificial intelligence.
What you will do:
Work collaboratively with the Head of External Affairs to devise and implement a public affairs strategy to support the overarching Communications strategy. Provide strategic advice and support as required on all matters relating to political influencing, contributing to briefings and preparations for senior-level meetings with politicians, civil servants, senior-level figures at the Medical Royal Colleges. Increase political and member buy-in for RCR campaign/policy asks, and help secure progress on key priority areas for the RCR from parliamentarians. Work collaboratively with the Head of External Affairs and External Affairs Officer - Media, to develop the College's media and engagement strategy, and take responsibility for the delivery of delegated activities. Develop and maintain public affairs contacts in parliament, government, the civil service and with key stakeholders. What you need:
Sound knowledge of political and parliamentary processes and procedure; possessing good grasp of the political environment. Experience of influencing stakeholders, and understanding of the opportunities and risks of working collaboratively with other stakeholders. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to tailor information for different audiences. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others at all levels.
