This is a New Zealand One dollar $1 coin, minted in 2003 by the Royal Mint. It is a sterling silver New Zealand dollar, in this case, 0.841 Troy Ounces and .925 purity. It measures 38.61 mm, and weighs 28.28 Grams.
The coin was struck to to celebrate the 'Lord of the Rings'. The Royal Mint, on behalf of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, released a very Limited Issue of coins showing scenes from the famous books by JRR Tolkein, and the films by Peter Jackson. This coin celebrates one of the final acts of the trilogy, the Coronation of King Aragorn. The reverse design depicts Aragorn's Coronation. Aragorn is crowned King Elessar. The design shows Aragorn and Arwen reunited. The obverse design is the stunning portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadley. The edge is milled.
This coin was purchased brand new. It is a Proof coin, in a special clear plastic container ~ known as 'Encapsulated' ~ which comes in a small 'Westminster Collections' envelope. It is in immaculate, gleaming, condition.
