Description

Personal Assistant needed in Cambridge CB5

We are looking for candidates to work as a Personal Assistant supporting a disabled person in the Abbey area of Cambridge.

The client lives in Cambridge with his husband. He has impairments which require him to use a wheelchair and cause pain, fatigue, and some mild communication problems. He works part-time, fosters animals and enjoys arts and crafts and caring for his animals and plants. He finds directly employing PAs enables him to live a full and active life, saving his limited energy for things that bring him meaning and enjoyment.

Duties: The tasks needed vary every day but will often include the following:

Help with getting ready for activities and tidying up afterwards

Meal preparation

Organising and assisting with medications

Day-to-day housekeeping (laundry, dishes, tidying, low-level cleaning)

Some help with washing and dressing

Animal care

Help to access a gym and exercise

Help to keep the house tidy and remove clutter

Form-filling and paperwork

Hours: We can offer a choice of at least 2 and up to 12 hours a week in 2- to 4-hour shifts. All days of the week aside from Thursdays are available. Preferred times are mid-morning and mid- to late afternoon but can be negotiated individually.

Pay & Benefits: £13 an hour for weekdays, £15 an hour for weekends and bank holidays, paid monthly in arrears. 28 days’ paid annual leave pro-rata, and paid sick leave subject to conditions.

To Apply: Person specification below. The online application form can be found here: https://forms.gle/QPuBk2sYaMiotAXi6

Person Specification:

Candidates must have all of:

UK resident with the right to work in the UK (we are unable to sponsor visas)

Good communication skills in fluent conversational English

Able to follow instructions precisely, and ask when uncertain

Reliable and a good time-keeper

Comfortable working with and around animals

LGBT friendly

The following would be particularly desired for this role:

Good organisational and administrative skills

Flexible

Self-motivated

Attention to detail (demonstrate this by telling us the client’s favourite colour is purple)

Experience of vegetarian cooking

Some understanding of the difference between a carer and a personal assistant

Prior experience of working in a PA role is desirable, but not necessary. Training will be provided as required.
