Job Title: Personal Assistant /Support worker (new pay rates)

Hourly rate: £15 + mileage @45p per mile

Hours/shifts: Saturdays, 6 hours once per fortnight
Summary
Are you an energetic, active person who loves the outdoors?
My son is a very kind, active, energetic 15-year-old who is looking for a personal assistant/support worker who can match his energy and participate with him to access the outdoors and a whole range of activities including swimming and going for walks. Once you meet him you will get to see his warm, loveable personality.
My son has Autism and is non-verbal, so the role will require someone with patience to understand his repetitive behaviours and anticipate his needs and emotions. Having experience of Makaton would be preferred but is not essential.
He will need support to develop the skills to tackle everyday tasks in order for him to be more independent, through encouragement, reminders and prompting.
Other Requirements
• Non-smoker preferred or someone who is willing to refrain from smoking during working hours.
• Must have a UK driving licence
• Must have access to own vehicle with Valid MOT

Description
Typical duties
Domestic:
Supervise, prompt and encourage my son during drink, snack and meal preparation.
Developing independence with domestic tasks including tidying, putting things away.
Personal Care:
Supervision and guidance with some personal care tasks e.g. prompting to get changed after swimming.
Social:
Accompanying and assisting him on shopping trips when required
Accompany when accessing social and leisure activities e.g. clubs, groups, swimming, trampolining, walks etc
Accompanying my son to the hairdressers and other appointments if required.
Accompanying on big trips out e.g. theme parks.
Researching and Planning activities linked to my son’s interests.
Support to plan activities/tasks with my son
The above duties will involve driving my son in your car
Whilst on duty at home participate with activities i.e. baking, crafts, watching films etc
Other tasks:
Use encouraging and positive language to enable him to gain confidence
Support to developing independence and social skills in everyday activities.
Break down tasks and activities into steps.
Person specification
The successful applicant will be:
Experience of Makaton is preferred. Ideally have an understanding/ experience of Autism

Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills

Previous experience preferred.
