The Company

Seymour John are pleased to be recruiting on behalf of a well–established organisation in Shrewsbury who are on the search for an enthusiastic and self–motivated Payroll & Pensions Manager to join their HR team.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of HR, you will be responsible for delivering the payroll and pensions function of the organisation. You will work closely with all members of the HR and Finance Team.

Hours are Monday to Friday 09:00–17:00

Duties of this role will include:

Preparing and thoroughly checking monthly payrolls, ensuring compliance with all related policies and procedures, NHS Pension Scheme regulations, NEST pension regulations and Government Legislation according to relevant deadlines.Setting monthly Payroll timetables and ensuring all departments adhere to the set timetable to ensure processing is delivered on a timely basis to the outsourced Payroll processor.Validating the accuracy of the Payroll exception reports and holding monthly meetings with the Head of HR and Finance Manager to approve payments.Daily administration of the Payroll and Pensions including monthly reconciliations.Responsible for all administration and maintenance work, for that allocation, including the correction of under and over payments, and the necessary manual calculations to restore the records.

Responsible for the smooth running and review of benefit schemesHandling all pension queries for employed staff and contractorsProposing changes to existing payroll and pension procedures, where these may bring improvements to the efficiency of current working practices.Timely submission of year–end statements to HMRC, NHS pensions and Nest Pensions.Maintaining necessary payroll records and personal staff filesComplying with Financial Regulations of the organisation – Observing General Data Protection Regulations and acting in accordance with departmental procedures.Keeping up to date with Government legislation and NHS Pension legislations and implementing any changes required.Creating good working relationships and maintaining excellent communication with HMRC and NHS Pensions and any other external processors on a regular basis to ensure correct data is used.Provide relevant support to the annual audit process.Identify and investigate HRIS concernsAccurately processing work in respect of starters, leavers, Pension Agency instructions, Change of Conditions, Statutory and occupational payments and pay advances

Programme manage HRIS system for annual leave entitlements and mid–year reporting.Assist in dealing promptly and appropriately with individual pay enquiries. Some may be of a complex nature, although further advice and support can be sought from the team leader.To meet with employees if required, which may involve providing and receiving complex, sensitive and confidential information.To contribute to the development of the payroll/pension department through staff meetings, working collaboratively and sharing suggestions and ideas. Continually review and update departmental procedures and controls, and escalate any required updates to the appropriate team leader or manager. This includes policies and procedures impacting on the wider organisation. Personal Profile

We are looking to speak with individuals who have a minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar payroll and pensions role. You must have excellent communication skills and be able to manage workload to tight deadlines. Good working knowledge of statutory payroll legislation/HMRC regulations relating to PAYE, National Insurance, SSP and SMP is essential.
