Job summary

Options for Care is looking to recruit an exceptional Deputy Manager passionate about working with individuals with severe and enduring mental health diagnoses.

Our two established hospitals, Montague Court and Dartmouth House, have successfully supported the needs of individuals with mental health diagnoses. We also have Orchard House, our recovery home, which provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals on their journey to mental health recovery.

Dartmouth House is a 16-bed male long-term complex care mental health inpatient unit based in Handsworth Wood, Birmingham.

Montague Court is an 18-bed male long-term complex care mental health inpatient unit based in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Orchard House is an 8-bed residential step-down service based in Erdington, Birmingham, which allows for the extension of the long-term complex care pathway.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for aiding the manager in providing clinical leadership and management. They will serve as a role model for clinical care within a diverse team, overseeing and supporting the delivery of high-quality, personalised care for mental health patients and their caregivers. It is essential that the post-holder comprehends and applies the organisation's mission, vision, and values.

Job Responsibilities

As a Deputy Manager, your duty is to ensure that patients receive the best quality of care possible. This includes adhering to best practices and legal requirements related to spirituality, equity, diversity, and rights. You will be responsible for leading the clinical team and collaborating with external agencies to enhance care models. It is crucial to have knowledge of policies and legislation related to service provision to carry out your duties effectively.

Your main responsibility is to lead the team in providing exceptional care to service users while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies. You will maintain good practice through audits, establish therapeutic relationships, and monitor service users' physical, mental, and emotional states. As a professional, you will participate in the organisation's appraisal process, align personal development with its objectives, and ensure the safe administration of medicines. It is also essential to respect different approaches within the team, maintain confidentiality, and conduct yourself professionally towards service users, colleagues, and other agencies. You will also lead and participate in joint work with experts and agencies.

This role requires educating and supporting pre/post-registration students, staff, carers, and service users. You will deliver teaching sessions and presentations to develop the care team according to the organisation's goals and objectives within the appraisal process. Additionally, you will provide staff induction, mentorship, appraisal, and clinical supervision to professional colleagues where necessary.

To apply for the position of Deputy Manager, you must be a Registered Mental Health Nurse (part 3 or 13) registered with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council and have evidence of appropriate post-graduate learning. You should also have at least two years of experience as a staff nurse, working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and 2007 amendments, and significant experience in risk assessment and care planning. Additionally, you should have a working knowledge of the safeguarding process and the Mental Capacity Act 2005, a thorough understanding of the care needs of vulnerable adults, specifically those with complex needs, and a sense of responsibility under the Care Programme Approach, Clinical Governance, and Child Protection Legislation.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Mental Health Nurse (part 3 or 13).

Evidence of appropriate post-graduate learning.

Desirable

Experience in similar care setting.
