This Martin D-41 Special was produced between 2004 and 2011, retailing at around £5,500.

It is a wonderful combination of the best attributes of the D-41 and D-42. It’s like a more ornate D-41 or a slightly simpler D-42 – the main difference being that it doesn’t have the inlay at the end of the fretboard.

It has a Sitka spruce top and really attractive Indian Rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard, with gold-plated open-geared butter-bean tuners.

It has forward-shifted 5/16 inch scalloped bracing, modified V neck profile, attractive snowflake 45-style neck inlay and gorgeous abalone inlay around top and sound-hole rosette.

The condition is well-nigh pristine – only the slightest of any dings, blemishes or play-wear, commensurate with her age, with one scratch on the back; I would say that she is ageing very nicely. The guitar plays beautifully and sounds terrific.

She comes with her superb original Martin hard case in perfect condition.

The only minor thing to mention is that she has a few very fine checking marks in the varnish on the top and the back of the headstock which can only be seen when the light catches them at a certain angle. I checked with a couple of Martin experts and they said these are very common and nothing to worry about; some people find them an attractive attribute. They occur solely in the varnish and do not affect the Sitka spruce top in any way.

This is a truly fantastic Martin dreadnought guitar which is no longer made, and therefore rarely seen for sale, especially here in the UK.
